19,000 Tons NOT in a Landfill in Cincinnati

Wow – Cincinnati’s recycling program has really taken off! In 2011, nearly 19,000 tons of recycled waste did not go into a landfill. There was a result from a 70% increase in recycling efforts from eligible Cincinnati households.

Last year, Cincinnati replaced its recycling bins with larger rolling bins. These new containers created space for 31% more recycling of paper, metal, glass and plastic.

What can be recycled?

  • Plastic bottles/jugs, collapsed and with lids screwed back on
  • Glass jars and bottles
  • Aluminum/steel cans
  • Empty aerosol cans with lids/tips removed
  • Paperboard
  • Cardboard broken down to 3’x3′ sections
  • Paper products (office paper, newspapers, magazines, junk mail and envelopes)
