Madisonville Is Building 500 Gardens

Madisonville, one of Cincinnati, Ohio’s oldest neighborhoods has a new initiative called “500 Gardens”. The area’s goal is to have 500 food-producing gardens in place in 2014.

Garden plots will be constructed from March through May as four-by-eight raised beds filled with planting soil. A garden will be provided to area residents for a small fee along with a requirement to attend a basic gardening class. In turn, each gardener will receive seeds and will be paired up with a mentor. For those who do not have space for a garden in their own yard, community garden plots will be available.

This project is being headed up by the Sidestreams Foundation and the Madisonville Urban Redevelopment Corporation.
