When selling your home, your goal is to obtain the highest possible price. You have enjoyed your home and hopefully it is now a marketable asset.
Determining a market value for your home involves several factors that you cannot change – its location and your initial investment in it.
But, there are other factors that you can control – such as the condition of your home.
Most home sellers need to focus on getting their home “show ready” before going on the market. Taking the time to put your home into its best possible condition is an investment that should pay off when it sells. (Remember, when we live in our homes, we get comfortable with our surroundings. A buyer may not feel the same way.)
Items to consider:
- Thorough house cleaning including windows
- Fresh paint
- Clean carpets
- Refinished hardwood floors
- Pre-packing and moving items to create more space
When you are getting ready to sell your home, it is always a good idea to preview what your competition is. By visiting other homes currently on the market, you will have a better feel of how your home will be viewed by potential home buyers.
