Where to Find Local Sunflower Fields

SunflowersThe sunflower – such a beautiful thing from Mother Nature. When you view a field of them, it is simply magical to see a sea of yellow. This summer be sure to grab your camera and head to a local field to capture their wonderfulness.

Sunflower fun facts: Each sunflower can contain anywhere from 1000 to 2000 seeds. Sunflowers turn with the sun when in the budding stage. And, the tallest sunflower on record was 30-feet tall!

Here’s our list of nearby sunflower fields to visit:

Near Cincinnati, Ohio

Blooms and Berries Farm Market
9669 S. St. Rt. 48, Loveland, Ohio
Sunflower fields will be ready mid to late September 2020.

The Black Barn
1161 W. Main Street, Lebanon, Ohio
One-acre sunflower field in bloom in early August.

Burwinkel Farms
4359 Hamilton Cleves Rd., Ross, Ohio
Annual Sunflower weekends in September 2020.

Gorman Heritage Farm
10052 Reading Rd., Evendale, Ohio
They have two fields peaking at different times. Closed Sundays.
Sunflower Festival is October 3–4, 2020

Meade Historic Preserve

Natorp’s in Mason
Across from Cottell Park at the corner of Snider Road and Irwin Simpson in Deefield Township, (Cincinnati), Ohio
Sunflower field is usually in bloom in August

Note: The Arts Alliance and Cincinnati Art Museum is having a sunflower art event at Cottell Park on August 15 (10am–2pm) and will be featuring sunflower still-life displays throughout the park.

Niederman Family Farm

Schappacher Farm

Near Northern Kentucky

Evans Orchard and Cider Mill
198 Stone Rd., Georgetown, Kentucky (one-hour drive)
The fields are open until August 18, 2020

Kalon’s Korner
3220 Clear Creek Rd.. Nicholasville, Kentucky (This is a 2-hour drive just south of Lexington)
This farm is worth the drive! Loads of sunflowers! You need to attend a public event – the farm is private otherwise.

Red Sunflower Farm
5043 Webster Road, Independence, Kentucky
Sunflowers are blooming the first two weeks in August. Visitors permitted on August 9 and 16, 2020. Follow on Facebook.

Vogel Farm

Near Dayton and Springfield, Ohio

Clark County Sunflower Field
Near the bike path at West Euclid and Grand Avenues, Springfield, Ohio.

Morris Reserve 
3151 Lower Bellbrook Rd., Bellbrook, Ohio
Prairie field includes some sunflowers and other wild flowers. This is a self-sustained area – sunflowers are not planted. (The reserve had a super bloom in summer 2019 – that did not happen this year.)

Possum Creek Metro Park
4790 Frytown Rd., Dayton, Ohio
A pathway is cut through the flower field – it’s very scenic!

Wenger’s Produce
3836 County Road 29, West Liberty, Ohio
The field is located on Township Road 166 near a raspberry field. Blooms usually in September.

Yellow Springs
Not planted for 2020 due to Covid-19. White Hall Farm – a Tecumseh Land Trust. Field is along US 68 between the Yellow Springs and Young’s Hersey Dairy. Note: this is private property. Usually 400,000 sunflowers are found in the field.

Near Southeastern Indiana

Barn at Helm

Large sunflower field and you-pick sunflower area, too.

Stuckey Farm
19975 Hamilton Boone Road, Sheridan, Indiana (This will be a 2.5-hour drive.)
Annual Sunflower Festival (September 5, 6 and 7, 2020). Pre-order tickets.

Tuttle Orchards
5717 N. 300 W., Greenfield, Indiana (This will be a 2-hour drive.)
Four acres of flowers – walk along a one-way path for the Sunflower Trail. Advance tickets required.
