Interested in MidCentury Modern style homes? Mark your calendar to view the Corbett House on October 2, 2016 from 12pm-6pm. This residence is going to be featured on tour by the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC) as part of this organization’s Great House Tour program.

The home is the former residence of local philanthropists, Ralph and Patricia Corbett. Mr. Corbett was the founder of NuTone who later sold the company in 1967. He and his wife dedicated the last years of their lives to the Corbett Foundation that supported the arts, education, medicine, and community activities in Cincinnati. They lived in this home until Patricia passed away in 2008.

The home was designed by John deKoven Hill, a former employee of Frank Lloyd Wright who embraced Wrightʼs philosophy but added his own nuanced interpretations of his style. The homeʼs design was deemed very progressive when it was built in 1958-59, and it was published in the February 1960 issue of House Beautiful  as a representation of the house of the future, a “Pace Setter home”. The magazine dedicated over 100 pages to cover the unique features of the residence, and world-renowned architectural photographer, Ezra Stoller, captured the essence of the home in a catalogue of images.

When constructed, this home featured NuTone intercoms, sound systems, doorbells and built-in kitchen appliances. Also new at the time was a Cincinnati Bell princess phone.

While the house is in exceptional condition, the furnishings and art have been removed from the home. To better understand what the house was like when Ralph and Patricia Corbett built it, reproductions of selected pages from the House Beautiful  article will be on display in the home during the tours.

Entrance to the home will be scheduled in groups of 12-15 during the house tour, every 15 minutes beginning at noon with the final tour concluding at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $30 each with proceeds benefiting the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati. Ticket purchases will be available on the AFC website  beginning on September 19, 2016.

The AFC will also hold an exhibition based on the House Beautiful article at The Architectural Foundation Gallery from September 27 through September 30. Reproductions of the article will be displayed for public viewing. The gallery is located at 811 Race Street and will be open daily from 11 am to 4 pm.

The Corbett home is listed with Julie Back of Sibcy Cline Hyde Park. The grounds have been divided into estate lots called Grandin View. Desirable half acre and larger lots offer stunning, treed views. Residents will be able to walk to Hyde Park Square or drive to downtown in minutes.
