Dayton, Ohio Is a Top U.S. Defense Community

WrightBros 2Dayton, Ohio was named a “Great American Defense Community” and is one of ten places in the U.S. that has been noted for its support of members of the military. The honor looked at education and employment factors as well as housing and deployment support for those in the military.

Dayton House Market Ranked the Fifth Healthiest in the US

In May 2015, not only did home sales increase by almost 7%, but the average sale price at $150,978 is the highest ever for the Dayton area. Here are all of the statistics for May:

  • 14.76% Increase in sales volume
  • .29% Increase in % sale/list price (97.08% vs 96.80%)
  • 7% Increase in median sales price ($130,000 vs $121,500)
  • 7.26% Increase in average sales price ($150,978 vs $140,753)

A local Dayton food truck called Zombie Dogz – has been rated the top 2015 Hot Dog Food Vendor of the Year by Mobile Cuisine. This truck creates gourmet hot dog combinations with handcrafted side dishes using fresh, locally made foods. Enjoy… a Hunk a Hunk a Rotting Flesh, Dead Dixie or The Mad Zombie!

This food truck posts its locations on Facebook. You can find them in downtown Dayton, Oregon District, University of Dayton, Wright State, to name of few of their popular stop spots.

  • The St. Patrick’s Day parade is a yearly tradition for the past 49 years! (March 14, 2015 – downtown Cincinnati at 12pm)
  • Fountain Square is celebrating on March 14th from 10am -10pm. Enjoy Celtic rock bans, Irish beer and food, dancing and more!
  • The Irish Heritage Center is celebrating on March 17 from 3pm -midnight. Enjoy music, dancing, and food!

Dayton, Ohio Among the Top Ten Best Cities to Live if You Are an Engineer

Are you an engineer? Head to Dayton, Ohio! The city ranks among the best U.S. cities for this profession per Forbes. Using data from NerdWallet, Forbes sourced information including average salary and cost of living. Dayton ranked #10 on the list with:

  • 21.3 engineers per 1,000 employees
  • $91,500 = average engineer’s salary
  • $733 = median gross rent

What area ranked at the top? Huntsville, Alabama (where NASA is located!)

Dayton, Ohio Is the Third Most-Affordable Housing Market in the U.S.

A report from the National Association of Home Builders has ranked the Dayton, Ohio region as the the third most-afforable housing market in the United States.

The report sourced the Housing Opportunity Index from Wells Fargo to find the percentage of homes that were affordable to households earning the U.S. median income of $63,900. In Dayton, 86% of area houses were considered affordable.

  • What area ranked at the top? Syracuse, New York
  • What area ranked at the bottom and least affordable? Los Angeles, California
