Decorate Your Home for Memorial Day

Memorial Day is almost here and it’s time to reflect on those who have served and sacrificed for our country as well as enjoy family and friends at a picnic or party. Do you have your home styled for this patriotic holiday? Here are some ideas to consider:

Display Your Colors with the American Flag
If you are displaying the flag against a wall (vertically or horizontally), the flag’s stars should be at the top, to the observer’s left. If you display your flag, hanging from a pole, the stars should either be at the peak of the staff or furthest from the building. Flags are never to touch the ground.

Red, White and Blue Flowers
One easy way to decorate for Memorial Day is to purchase flowers in red, white and blue hues and place them in pots. You can add festive ribbons or mini flags to these potted plants if you like.

Planted flower beds with an American red, white and blue scheme look great, too. Here is an interesting article about patriotic-colored flower combinations.

Patriot Garlands
Red, white and blue garlands are available in all price ranges and can drape from outside windows or porch rails. Try Amazon.com, Party City or Oriental Trading.

Patio Mats (Rugs)
Your red, white and blue theme could include a festive outdoor patio mat a porch or patio. Here is one source for this type of item.

You can have all kinds of fun decorating the inside of your home for Memorial Day. Pillows, mantle displays, table displays can reflect the patriotic colors. Click here to a Huffington Post story about free, printable Memorial Day decorations and favors!
