Everyone uses insurance for their home, car and health, but did you ever think about how this industry was first established in our country?
Benjamin Franklin, one of our country’s founding fathers, started the first insurance company in 1752 called the Philadelphia Contributionship for the Insurance of Houses from Loss by Fire. Homes in Philadelphia were made of wood and were very close to each other and this type of fire insurance was needed!
From Franklin’s fire insurance company, building standards were developed to avoid fire hazards and pay outs from the company. These insurance standards were later reworked into city building and zoning codes.
The man-who-appears-on-the-$100-bill also started the first life insurance company. Interested in reading more about the history of insurance? Go here.

Sibcy Cline Insurance Services was invited to participate on the Eddie and Tracy program on 700 WLW on Tuesday May 21, 2013 for a show about the Oklahoma tornado and how insurance plays a role with disasters.
Cindy Alexander, Customer Service Representative, and Rusty Feth III, Account Executive, were interviewed on this current-news program by Eddie Fingers.
Cindy talked about how insurance companies deal with disasters by first providing for immediate needs. They send first response teams to the sites with cash cards, generators and other items for people who have lost their homes.
Rusty spoke of the importance of creating a video that can detail all of the various items found in your home. When a home is destroyed, it is difficult to remember everything you own. This video should be stored away from the home or on the Internet.
They both emphasized the importance of having an up-to-date, current replacement value on the insurance coverage of your home.

In the morning, Jamie and Cindy spoke to Scott Sloan. The segment was called: “Insurance After A Disaster”. Listen to the podcast here! (This segment covered how insurance companies go about to replace people’s belongings when everything is destroyed in a natural disaster such as a tornado. The talk went on further to discuss all kinds of insurance situations including water, wind and even locusts!)
In the afternoon, they talked to Eddie Fingers and Tracy Jones for the Eddy and Tracy show: “Where Do They Go From Here?” Eddie and Tracy asked about the insurance process that follows a disaster, including how insurance mobile units go directly to disaster areas quickly to help people out.
